product design to the extreme.

    product design to the extreme.

hopefully successful landing on the Mars of the rover Curiosity, which was lanch late in 2011. The design challenges faced are jaw dropping. All the stages in landing have to function automatic or without human input, due to the time data takes to travel from Mars to earth.
how do you test these systems on earth, since its a very different environment.
    1. Guiding the entry small rockets. slowing the craft down to mach 1 or 2

    2. Parachute Descent slowing down to a nice speed of 1200mph

    3. Powered Descent after getting  rid of  Parachute, slowing 200mph around.

    4. sky crane system will lower the rover to a soft landing wheels down - on the surface of Mars.

    lot to do

That looks overly complicated, nothing  that blue foam and a bit of double sided tape can’t fix.  What was plan B?

Re: product design to the extreme.

I would have gone with the large bouncing beach ball triples core  method that or FedEx it. But yes you can see where the money goes, but is this product design? I would say its more like engineering and science. I think I read somewhere that the NASA crowd don’t even recognise the I.D profession  mad  mad  mad , only recognising engineering and science professions!!! Is that true?

By the way I will do a post on how to post a video soon.
